EU signed its EURATOM TREATY in 1957 and started its co-regulation of nuclear power at European level. After the Chernobyl accident, EU strengthened regulatory oversight on nuclear radiation. Accordingly, European Commission and Member States are facilitating exchange of information and emergency notification to each other. In these days, Member States are inspecting and testing whether local food and imported food contains radioactivity, and regularly reports the results to the Commission. There is increasing concerns about nuclear activities in Northeast Asian countries. It is desirable to consider introducing the exchange of information and notification between three countries in order to dispel concerns about the safety of the people in that area. To enhance the safety through transparent information release, it is also necessary to include radioactivity information of fisheries in the domestic traceability system.
