A Study on Plans to Vitalize the Marine Tourism and Leisure Industry

This study aims to vitalize the marine tourism and leisure industry and thus provided relevant plans based on research and a case study of distinctive areas in Korea that are surrounded by the ocean on three sides. The research findings are as follows. First, it is necessary to establish and promote policies to develop various marine tourism products and programs. Second, the development must be carried out according to the local marine environment. Third, marine tourism development must be considered a top priority, followed by environmental conservation. Fourth, it is necessary to establish legal and institutional grounds for marine tourism acilities. Fifth, there is a need for cooperation and communication with residents in the coastal areas. Sixth, the development must be suitable for accessibility and marketability of the tourist spots. Finally, it is necessary to build an infrastructure of marine tourism areas. The following suggestions can be made on the basis of the findings of this study. A multilateral analysis on various issues must be conducted, and the government and private organizations must thoroughly investigate the characteristics of regional coasts. Moreover, the establishment of policies to vitalize the marine tourism and leisure industry must not be a one-time event, but must be continuously planned and developed by the next government administration as well
