A Study on the Possibility of Insurance Cover Regarding Ocean Energy Industry

As the importance of ocean energies is being ever more emphasized after the increase of crude oil prices and the great earthquake over Fukushima, many countries around the globe are endeavoring to develop marine resources such as petroleum and natural gas. Accordingly, domestic companies are accelerating their expansion of large-scale shipbuilding and ship equipment manufacturing businesses including offshore support vessel, FPSO, FSRU, F-LNG, gas transportation, and drill ship development as well as LNG transportation. Development projects for marine resources such as natural gas require a tremendous amount of investment for a long period of time. Besides, various interested parties may participate in one marine project, and the division of responsibilities among them is quite complicated. For this reason, arranging and managing insurances properly is of great importance when it comes to risk management on the part of interested parties. This study aims to examine risks and insurances regarding natural gas marine development projects.
