미술대학 졸업생의 취업 현황 연구

A Study on the Employment Status of Art College Graduates

경제 불황이 장기화할 것으로 예상되는 가운데 청년 실업이 심각한 경제․사회적문제로 대두되고 있는 상황에서, 미술 분야에서도 청년 취업 현황을 객관적으로 파악하고 보다 전략적으로 활성화 방안을 모색할 필요가 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 서울 시내 미술대학의 2011년-2013년도 순수미술 전공 졸업생 75명을 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하여 미술 분야 청년 일자리 실태를 알아보고, 졸업생 및 미술 분야 종사자들과의 심층 인터뷰를 통해 순수미술 전공자의 사회 진출 관련 문제점과 대안을 살펴보았다. 이를 토대로 향후 미술대학 졸업생들의 원활한 사회 진출을 위한 교과과정 및 교내 지원 프로그램, 제도 및 정책의 개선방향을 제시하였다.

The recent economic downturn has been hard on all sectors in a nation, and art college graduates are not an exception. In this situation, understanding working conditions for young artists and artistic workers, and provide a road map for improvement has been a significant issue. This article aims to explore the labor-market experience of recent fine art graduates and to investigate specific features of the working conditions in art sectors using survey and focus group interview data. The result of the survey showed that most graduates have been employed in art-related fields, while most of them are not content with their jobs due to low wages and insecure employment. Based on the results, this article provides alternatives for the current art college curriculum and policy support for young artists: 1) developing practical career education programs that can help students advance career exploration and field experience, 2) providing customized support programs for art college graduates including artist fees, working spaces, and networking opportunities, 3) raising awareness of artists as a profession and promoting investment for the expansion and activation of the art market in the long term.
