申景濬의 莊子 <양생주>편 해석에 대하여

About Shin Gyeong-Jun’s Interpretation of Yang Sheng Zu Chapter in Chang-tzu

이 논문은 조선 후기의 실학자 旅菴 申景濬(1712~1781)의 文章準則, 莊子選, <養生主>편의 구성과 주제에 대한 저자의 인식을 살펴보기 위하여 집필된 것이다. 일정한 편폭으로 구성된 특정 문장에 대한 分段은 해당 문장에 구현된 작가의식 및 그 구현 방식에 대한 분단주체의 시각과 긴밀한 관련이 있다. 신경준은 ‘養生主’라는 편명을 ‘삶을 주재하는 것을 기른다’라는 뜻으로 해석하였으며, 곽상, 임희일, 박세당, 한원진 등 역대 莊子 주석가들과는 달리 <양생주>편을 5단락으로 분단하고, 전편의 주제 형성에 기여하는 각 단락의 역할을 논리정연하게 해명하였다. 즉 신경준은 각 단락의 요지를 ‘양생의 기본 원칙’, ‘養生[形]의 최종적 목표인 養神의 요결’, ‘養形을 잘못한 사례’, ‘養神을 잘못한 사례’, ‘최선의 養神法’으로 인식하고, 장자의 養神論 이라는 관점에서 <양생주>편의 주제를 해명하고 있다. 이 과정에서 신경준은 장자의 사상에 대한 긍정적 인식을 바탕으로 성리학의 心性論을 <양생주>편 해석에 적용하였다. 이러한 신경준의 <양생주>편 해석은 이전의 장자 주석서에서 유례를 찾기 힘든 독창성을 지니고 있는 것으로 판단된다.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the author’s awareness of the composition and theme of ‘Yang Sheng Zu’ Chapter in ‘MunJangJunChik JangJaSeon’ by Yeoam Shin Gyeong-Jun(1712~1781), a Silhak scholar during the late Joseon Dynasty. Division for a specific sentence composed of constant length is closely related to author`s consciousness implemented in the sentence and sight of division subject for the implementation way. Shin Gyeong-Jun interpreted the title ‘Yang Sheng Zu’ as the meaning of ‘raising things controlling life’ and unlike previous ‘Chang-tzu’ commentators such as Gwak Sang, Im Hui-il, Park Se-dang, Han Won-jin etc., he divided ‘Yang Sheng Zu’ Chapter into 5 paragraphs and logically explained the role of each paragraph contributing to the theme formation of the whole book. That is, recognizing the point of each paragraph as ‘Basic principles of Yang Sheng’, ‘Key to Yangsin, the final goal of Yang Sheng[type]’, ‘Wrong cases of Yanghyung’, ‘Wrong cases of Yangsin’, ‘Best Yangsin method’, Shin Gyeong-Jun explains the theme of ‘Yang Sheng Zu’ Chapter from the point of view of Chang-tzu’s Yangsin theory. In this process, Shin Gyeong-Jun applied the mind theory of neo-Confucianism to the interpretation of ‘Yang Sheng Zu’ Chapter based on the positive awareness of Chang-tzu’s ideology. This Gyeong-Jun;s interpretation of ‘Yang Sheng Zu’ Chapter is determined to have creativity totally different from previous ‘Chang-tzu’commentaries.
