비행청소년의 재비행과 개인적·사회생태학적 특성의 상관성에 대한 연구

Delinquency Recidivism, Individual Factors, and Community Contexts

이 연구는 지역의 사회생태학적 특성이 비행청소년의 재비행과 가지는 상관성에 대해서 종단적인 분석을 적용하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 범죄학에서는 사회생태학적 요인들에 대한 연구가 다수 수행되었지만, 개인적인 행태에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구, 특히 종단적인 관찰을 적용한 연구는 많지 않다. 이 연구는 그 점을 보완하기 위해서, 무단결석으로 인해 법원의 관리를 받고 있는 사례들을 2006년부터 2010년까지 관찰하여 재비행 여부에 개인적인 요인들과 지역사회의 요인들(실업률, 가족해체, 문화의 이질성)이 미치는 영향을 동시에 포함하였고, 사회생태학적 요인들의 영향을 통제한 상태에서 개인적 요인들이 유의미한 관계를 보이는지 실증적으로 검토하였다. 개인적인 행태의 종단적인 관찰과 사회생태학적 요인들의 영향력을 통제하기 위해서 모수 사건사(parametric event history) 분석 모형을 적용한 결과, 지역사회의 요인들은 표본사례들의 부 정적 결과에 유의미한 영향을 주지 못 하였다. 하지만, 표본이 속한 거주지역은 평균적으로 사회해체의 수준이 높은 것으로 나타나, 표본에 포함된 비행청소년들이 대부분 환경적으로 열악한 지역에 거주하고 있음이 발견되었다. 또한, 청소년들의 학교생활과 관련한 경험들이 결과에 유의미한 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 청소년비행에 효과적으로 접근하기 위해서는 가정과 학교의 기능을 회복하고, 더불어 지역사회의 자원을 유기적으로 연계하여 청소년들에게 지원하는방법이 필요할 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of community contexts on delinquency recidivism based on the longitudinal research design. Prior studies in criminology have tested the social context factors, but many of them focused mostly on community-level measurements for the outcome variable and have utilized the cross-sectional design. In order to fill this gap, the researcher made observations for the cases under the supervision of a truancy court in Florida between 2006 and 2010, and analyzed the data with the characteristics of the community where the juveniles in the cases resided. Parametric event history models were drawn for the analysis in which the influence of the community contexts was controlled. As a result, community contexts did not have any significant impact on the outcome of the truancy cases in the parametric event history models. However, the description of community characteristics(unemployment rate, family disorganization, and cultural heterogeneity) revealed that the condition of the sampled communities were worse than the average of the U.S., which means that the sample resided in somewhat disorganized communities. The analysis also indicated that school-related factors were significant. The approach for dealing with juvenile delinquency needs to be based on restoring the function of home and school as well as reorganizing resources in the community better and providing appropriate supports to juveniles.
