A Study on Coexistence of Native and Foreign Shops for Vitalization of Eutteum-gil Food Alley District (Sujin 1-dong)

Eutteum-gil Sujin 1-dong Food Alley Merchant is devoting its efforts into the project on vitalization of downtown commercial district with Seongnam-si and Seongnam-si Commercial District Vitalization Foundation. However, there are many problems. The number of foreign (Chinese) shops has been rapidly increasing in the past 2~3 years. This is resulting in many irrational problems. Major problems are aroused by differences in cultures and lifestyles. Due to such problems, this commercial district is recognized as dangerous crime-ridden area with disgusting odor, uncleanness, and discomfort. As native customers are turning their steps away from this district, native shop owners are suffering from serious damage. They are becoming mentally withered with the awareness that their livelihood is being devastated.
