Changes in the Korea War Research Trends, 1950 - 2015

이 글은 1950년부터 2015년까지 지난 65년 동안의 한국전쟁 사학사를 짚어보고 있다. 이 글은 내용적으로 기존 한국전쟁 사학사를 ‘기원과 발발’에 대한 연구와 ‘전개’에 대한 연구로 양분하여 살펴보고, ‘전개’ 부분을 다시 ‘군사사’, ‘정치사’, ‘사회사’의 세 영역으로 나누어 분석한다. 그 주요 내용을 대략적으로 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 1990년대 러시아자료 공개 이후 한국전쟁의 국제전적 기원을 부각시키는 연구들이 다수의 국내 연구자들에 의해 발표되어 왔지만, 2000년 이후 해외학계에서는 오히려 한국전쟁의 내전적 기원을 매우 중요하게 바라보는 복합론적 인식이 널리 수용되고 있다. 둘째, 정부와 군 산하의 연구기관에서 주도해 온 한국전쟁 군사사 연구는 최근 다수의 민간연구자들에 의해 관점의 전환과 비판적 역사서술이 시도 되고 있다. 셋째, 한국전쟁 정치 외교사 연구는 이론 중심의 정치학 연구에서 사료 중심의 역사학 연구로 이동해가는 경향성을 보여주었고, 사회사적 연구는 구술사 연구방법론의 도입과 한국사회의 민주화와 함께, 민간인학살, 마을, 계급구조, 종교, 점령정책 등과 같은 다양한 연구성과들을 제공하 고 있다. 이상과 같은 기존 연구의 연장선상에서, 향후에도 한국전쟁을 바라보는 새로운 관점의 확보, 이론적 틀의 제공, 새로운 자료의 발굴, 비교사적 연구 도입 등이 지속적으로 시도되어야 할 것이다.

This article points out the major history of historiography of the Korean War over the past 65 years. In particular, it examines the existing Korean War history of historiography from two different perspectives—'origin and the outbreak' and 'progress'—and analyzed the 'progress' in three areas of 'military history', 'political history', and 'social history'. The main issues are as follows. First, there have been many researches that highlighted origin of the Korean War as in terms of International War after the Russian documents has been made public in 1990s, but international academic communities have accepted a rather complex understanding since 2000s that highlights the civil war perspective for the origin of the Korean War. Second, the researches of the Korean War history of historiography that has been led by government and military affiliated institutions in the past have been criticized by a number of private researchers recently. Third, the trend of political history researches on the Korean War has been shifting from a theory-oriented research to a historical source-oriented one, and social history researches have adopted oral history research methodology and provided a variety of research performance on democratization, civilian massacres, villages, class structure, religion, occupation policy, and so on. A continuous attempt to secure new perspectives on the Korean War, to provide a theoretical framework, excavation of new data, and adaptation of comparative history research method should be made.
