Purpose: This article reviewed the predictors of acceptability and barriers that prevent women from receiving HPV vaccination. Methods: Published articles from 2006 – 2014 were searched using database such as PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE and Science Direct showing abstracts and full texts on factors affecting HPV vaccination. Results: 32 articles were included. Participants are from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds involving parents with daughters and/or young women less than 20 years old. Five relevant themes were used as framework: knowledge and awareness on HPV infection and cervical cancer; pragmatic sexual behavior concerns; perceived risk of infection; the safety, efficacy and cost effectiveness of HPV vaccines, and perceived clinicians and peer support. Conclusion: The results will bring further awareness to practitioners in providing client-centered approach of addressing the common barriers affecting their intention to receive HPV vaccines. This information will also provide an avenue to further improve and strengthen the campaign against cervical cancer.
