We develop the model of multiple choice of McFadden (1974) that find the determinants of firms for choosing several alternatives of IPR protection: Patents, copyright, trademark, etc. Estimation results shows, in the case of patents, inward FDI as funding sources affects the choice. In the case multiple choice, succeeding in process innovation leads to adopting petty patents and trade secret relative to patents. In the case of product innovation, they tend to avoid trademark and market preemption relative to patents. These results show that STI policy should focus on strengthening the degree of protection through petty patents and trade secret in the case of process innovation and patents in the case of product innovation
