죽음교육의 필요성에 관한 연구

The study of necessity of death education

죽음은 모든 인간이 맞게 되는 발달의 마지막 부분이다. 이에 여러 국가에서는 죽음을 교육의 대상으로 여겨 죽음교육을 실시하고 있다. 그러나 우리사회에서는 여전히 죽음에 대한 언급을 금기로 여기는 것이 지배적이다. 이에 본고는 죽음에 대한 철학적 관점의 분류를 통해 죽음에 대한 관심을 환기시키고, 이를 바탕으로 죽음교육의 필요성을 주장하고자 한다. 죽음을 보는 철학적 관점으로는 죽음을 내세의 관문으로 보는 관점, 죽음을 불가지(不可知)의 대상으 로 보는 관점, 죽음에 대한 자각이 삶의 동인(動因)이 된다고 보는 관점이 있다. 죽음교육은 두 가지 측면에서 필요하다고 본다. 우선 개인적 측면에서는 죽음에 대한 이해와 자아실현을 도모하기 위해 죽 음교육이 필요하다고 보았으며, 사회적 측면에서는 사회 구조의 급격한 변화로 죽음교육이 사실상 부재한 상황 하에 윤리적 문제들이 대두하고 있는 현실을 타개하기 위해 죽음교육이 필요하다고 본다.

Death is last part of human development because every human must die. So many countries practices death education that they treats death as object of education. But dominant opinion about death which is equal taboo in Korea society. The purpose of this study is clarify perspectives of philosophy about death and justify necessity of death education. First, this study clarify three perspective of philosophy about death : a perspective of regard death as gateway of afterlife, a perspective of regard death as unknowebleness, and a perspective of life is motivated by self-awareness of death. Second, this study justify necessity of death education with two aspect . At individual aspect, death edu cation is necessary to understanding of death and self-realization. At social aspect, death education is require for resolving ethical problems(especially the problem of euthanasia and suicide) that emerge from absence of death education from rapid change of family structure .
