In this work professional computer jargon is analysed, i.e. the lexical layer, which is used to communicate on any professional subject by specialists and computer users. It is a lively and flexible layer of the language, having its own structure, the laws of formation and development. In particular a compressive method of new lexems formation in this language layer is considered. Univerbation is one of the most active processes used in the computer jargon. Univerbs are the words created from a word combination or a phrase. The derived word is defined as a single word, but it has the meaning of a phrase it used to be before the process of univerbation occurred. After this process the phrase loses one of its parts, the other part becomes the stem of a univerb, the univerb itself is created by suffixation. The univerbs are highly expressive. The constant use of contracted forms of the words by the speakers makes the speech more vibrant. The telescopy is another mean to make speech laconic, preserve the maximum amount of information and make it highly expressive. Functionality of abbreviations in the Russian computer jargon is completely different. It is not that strict, less official and acquires some amount of evaluation. Substantivisation is abundant in the Russian computer jargon. However, complete substantivisation is less frequent and used occasionally. Elliptical substantivisation is very common for compressive derivation of words or word combinations. The compression of a sentence into a single word cannot occur if the sentence does not have the same connotation as a single word. A newly created noun should have a meaning expressed by a phrase. Quantity specification of compressive wordbuilding models testify that compressives hold a prominent place in the professional computer discourse. Descriptive expressions and verbose names are forced out completely.
