Evolvement of International Human Rights Instruments under the UN

This paper examines the development of UN human rights mechanisms in chronological order, focusing on internationalization, internalization and politicization of human rights. Based on this review, major changes and characteristics of the development of international human rights are briefly elaborated, such as the evolving concept of sovereignty, the emergence of various stakeholder, rights based approach to human rights issues, and the relationship between international human rights law and international criminal law. Lastly, this paper describes the way in which UN human rights mechanisms have been utilized in South Korea for decades.
