Analysis of Korean Industrial Structure and Typology of Industrial Development: The Application of New Industry Classification and a Look at International Competitiveness in the Manufacturing and Service Industries

The purpose of this study is to analyze industrial structure and typology of industrial development for international business’ capacity enhancement in Korea by new industry classification. To analyze the international competitiveness of Korea’s manufacturing and service industries, analytical methods used in this study included RCA, TSI, RSCA, F&H RCA. Next, industrial classification was done according to whether the sample subjects were capital-intensive manufacturing, knowledge-intensive manufacturing, labor-intensive manufacturing, capital-intensive service knowledge-intensive service or labor-intensive service. According to the study, Korea’s future industrial development shall be the convergence of industry models involving knowledge-intensive manufacturing and labor-intensive, knowledge-intensive service.
