국외 한국어 학습자를 위한 문화교재 개발 방향

Directions for the Development of Cultural Materials for Overseas Students Learning the Korean Language, from the Perspective of Interculturalism

본 연구에서는 국외 한국어 학습자, 그중 세종학당 학습자를 위한 문화교재 개발방안에 대해 제안하였다. 세종학당은 한국어 및 한국문화의 국외 활성화를 위해 한국정부가 설립한 기관으로 이 기관의 운영 목적에는 ‘한국어와 한국문화의 확산’, 그리고 ‘국가브랜드의 제고에 기여’라는 매우 현실적이며 실질적인 목적이 제시되어 있다. 그러나 언어와 문화의 일방적 전파와 확산은 지구촌이 세계화, 다문화화 되고 있는 현재의 상황에 맞지 않을 뿐만 아니라 타언어&#12539;문화권 학습자에게 오히려 반감을 줄 수도 있다는 문제점을 안고 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결할 수 있는 방법 중 하나는 세종학당의 운영 목적 중 두 번째에 제시된 ‘문화상호주의 관점’을 실현하는 데 있다. 민족중심주의, 문화우월주의, 문화동화주의 등의 관점에서 탈피하여 진정한 사회적 통합, 그리고 성숙한 세계시민으로서의 자세를 추구하는 문화상호주의, 즉 상호문화주의(Interkulturalismus)는 자문화와 타문화의 상생을 이끌 수 있는 이념으로 최근 한국어교육 분야에서도 자주 언급되고있다. 그러나 상호문화주의의 개념, 그리고 그것의 실천적 방법에 대해서는 아직 더 논의가 필요해 보인다. 이에 본 연구에서는 상호문화주의의 개념과 특성 및 그것의 교육적 실현방법에 대해 살펴 본 후 상호문화주의가 실제 세종학당에서 추진하고 있는 문화교육 사업에 잘 반영되고 있는지를『세종한국어』 및 <2015 세종학당 문화교육과정 개발 연구>를 통해 확인해 보았다. 기존 사업의 성과와 한계를 확인한 후에는 세종학당이 추진하고 있는 ‘세종 한국문화’교재에 상호문화주의를 적극 반영할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다.

This study suggests a method for developing cultural teaching materials designed for overseas students learning the Korean language. The specific focus is the King Sejong Institute, established in October 2012 with the explicit purpose of promoting the Korean language and culture as well as improving the national brand image. However, the study also recognizes that, insofar as the unilateral spread of a culture is not consistent with the trends of globalization and multiculturalism, it can cause hostility among learners in other cultures. The realization of “interculturalism” as one of the operational goals of the King Sejong Institute could be a solution to this problem. Although it needs further discussion and more solid implementation plans, interculturalism is a philosophy that can lead to the co-existence of cultures; it seeks true social integration as well as a mature attitude for pursuing global citizenship. Based on this critical viewpoint, this study firstly examines the concept of interculturalism and its methods of realization. Secondly the study verifies whether interculturalism has been effectively reflected in the “Sejong Korean Language” program as well as in the "Cultural Curricula of King Sejong Institute". The study concludes with a proposal on how to reflect interculturalism within cultural teaching materials.
