Legal issues related to multicultural marriage - The legal status of immigrants by marriage -

Since 2000 there are a lot of cases who married foreigner spouses. Because of increasing international marriage, we have begun to pay attention to immigrants by marriage. The people who come to Korea because of marriage want to get Korean Nationality. They get Korean nationality by Nationality Act. According to article 6, “where a foreigner whose spouse is a national of the Republic of Korea falls under any of the following subparagraphs, he/she may obtain permission for naturalization, even without meeting the requirements under subparagraph 1 of Article 5.” However, in the case of a marriage, some marriage immigrants get devoice or undergo death of spouse, and as a result she cannot satisfy the naturalization requirements. If she could not acquire citizenship, she have to return her home country or stay in Korea as an illegal alien. This article describes the nationality acquisition process of marriage immigrants. In the process marriage immigrants have a lot of troubles. So we have to pay attention to marriage immigrants, and fined the way to live together.
