Analysis on Characteristics of Psychological Expression in Makeup depending on Depression Symptoms

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of psychological expression through makeup depending on depression symptoms. For this, 245 middle-aged women living in Busan were sampled through simple random sampling, using a self-report questionnaire. The study results found that the severity of depression symptoms caused significant differences in makeup interest, makeup satisfaction and makeup psychological utility. As depression symptoms got more severe, makeup awareness significantly decreased. The characteristics of makeup shaping psychology depending on depression symptoms can be observed in the color, form and texture of makeup used. In makeup color psychology, as depression symptoms got worse, black colors and cold colors were more preferred for eyebrows and eyes respectively. In terms of an eye makeup tone, dark and turbid tones were more used. For the color of lips, beige was preferred, while a turbid tone was frequently used for the tone of lips. In makeup form psychology, as depression symptoms became more serious, downward eyebrows and incurved lips were more preferred. In makeup texture psychology, as depression symptoms got worse, lusterless texture was more common. It is expected that the results would be available as basic data for further studies for makeup psychotherapy through analysis on the characteristics of psychological expression in makeup.
