미혼모가족에 대한 부정적 인식의 역사적･사회적 배경에 관한 소고

A Study of Historical and Social Contexts of Bias Against Families of Unmarried Mothers

미혼모가 지속적으로 증가하면서 미혼모가족이 자립하는데 장애가 되고 있는 부정적 인식과 차별을 개선하는 것의 중요성이 강조되고 있지만, 오랜 기간 우리 사회의 주변인으로 존재해온 미혼모 가족에 대한 일탈적이고 배제적인 시각이 지속되는 이유와 미혼모가족에 대한 부정적 인식에 영향을 미치는 이유에 대한 성찰은 부족하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 미혼모가족에 대한 불인정과 배제의 문제를 ‘가족을 어떻게 볼 것인가’의 측면에서 고찰하고, 미혼모가족에 대한 부정적 인식의 역사적･사회적 맥락을 살펴보고자 한다. 특히 전자와 관련하여 우리나라와 유사한 유교기반과 저출산 국가라는 공통점 외에 우리나라의 가족법 형성과정과 혼외출산에 대한 인식에 영향을 미친 일본의 사례를 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 문헌연구를 주된 연구방법으로 활용하여 미혼모가족의 실태와 가족에 대한 변화된 인식 및 법제도에 나타난 가족의 정의, 가족에게 기대되는 역할과 기능, 그리고 한국과 일본의 가족 개념과 가족 구성의 원리 및 가족주의의 역사적 맥락을 고찰하였다.

Recently, researchers have highlighted the importance of reducing discrimination against unmarried mothers. However, few studies have paid attention to identifying reasons why the exclusionary attitudes towards families of unmarried mothers have long been existing and factors affecting negative images of these families. Therefore, this study aims to examine issues of social disapproval and exclusion of unmarried mothers and their families in terms of ‘how we should define the family’ and a historical context of bias against these families in Korea. In particular, this study examined the history of unmarried mothers in Japan, which has influenced the formation of Korean family law and social views of out-of-wedlock birth. This study used a literature review to examine the status of unmarried mothers and their families, changes in social perception of the family and the definition of the family and its expected role and function which are stipulated by laws. Also, this study compared and analyzed the concept of family, family lineages and the historical contexts of Korea and Japan.
