The current critical crisis of Al-Aqsa Mosque began with the Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem on June 7, 1967. On June 28 of the same year, Israel readjusted the boundaries of Jerusalem and unified West Jerusalem and East Jerusalem. But under international law, East Jerusalem is still occupied territory and Israeli activities in Al-Haram Al-Sharif and Al-Aqsa Mosque are considered not only illegal but also null. The controversy surrounding the status of Jerusalem has been the subject of numerous UN Resolutions since UNGA Resolution 181 of 29 November 1947. On April 20, 2015, UNESCO adopted a resolution concerning Al-Aqsa Mosque which Jordan and the Palestinians submitted. The resolution urged Israel to end the forced entry of Jewish extremists and armed military personnel to Al Aqsa courtyards. Al-Aqsa Mosque is one of the very sensitive and controversial places in the world and is a core issue in the negotiations among the US, Israel, Palestine, and Jordan. To clarify the complex issue surrounding Al-Aqsa Mosque, this paper analyses ownership disputes and the policies of the British Mandate, Jordan, Israel, Palestinians since the British Mandate era when the British Mandate authority issued a Status Quo Agreement of Al-Haram Al-Sharif, Al-Aqsa Mosque.
