The Effects of Proprioception Exercise on the Ankle Stability of Youth Soccer Players

Objective: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of a six-week propr ioception exercise program on the ankle stability of youth soccer players. Method: A total of 30 male youth soccer players were recruited for the study. 15 took part in a progressive six-week proprioception exercise program and 15 followed a strength exercise program. The Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool(CAIT), Joint Position Sense Test (JPST), Balance Test (BT), and Functional Test (FT) measures of the recruits we re taken before and after they had participated in these programs. Results: After six-weeks, the CAIT, JPST, BT, and FT measures for the proprioception exercise group were found to be significantly higher than those for the strength exercise group. Conclusion: The proprioception exercise group showed the most improvement in ankle s tability among these youth soccer players. Therefore, it can be concluded that proprioce ption exercises have positive effects when used as ankle rehabilitation and for the prev ention of ankle injuries
