A Study of Copyright Ownership by Choreography

Recently, circumstances for dance creation are changed, so choreographers choreograph in various methods. There are a few cases on the choreographies in practice. In spite of such a few cases, choreographies are protected as a kind of dramatic works under the Korean Copyright Act. Choreographic works are characterized by the composition and arrangement of dance movements and patterns unlike other copyrighted works. According to the Korean Copyright Act, choreographic works don’t need to be fixed in a tangible means of expression such as labanotation for choreography, written descriptions like other works.
