대학생들의 리더십 경험 유형, 강도,시기가 리더십수준에 미치는 영향

The Effects of Type, Amount, and Timing of College Students' Leadership Experiences on their Leadership Level

본 연구는 리더십 개발을 위한 리더십 경험의 가치를 찾아보고, 고등교육에서 바람직한 리더십 경험을 제공하기 위한 방법을 모색하는 탐색적 연구이다. 본 연구 에서는 리더십 경험과 리더십 수준에 관한 관계를 분석하기 위해 대학생들의 리더 십 수준에 영향을 미치는 리더십 경험의 종류, 양, 시기에 대한 양적 자료를 활용 하였다. 먼저 리더십의 개념, 리더십의 개발방법 등에 관한 대표적 문헌이 수집되어 검토되었다. 다음으로 리더십 경험에 관한 양적자료를 토대로 분석을 진행하였는데, 양적자료는 리더십 경험의 종류, 양, 시기에 따라 대학생들의 리더십 수준에서 차이를 보이는지 확인하기 위해 한국의 16개 대학 428명의 대학생을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 양적자료에 대한 분석결과는 리더십 경험에 관련된 개념과 함께 가설형태로 제시되었다. 연구결과에서는 잠재리더로서 대학생들은 대학 생활뿐 아니라 그 이전의 학교생활에서의 대표 및 리더로 활동한 리더십 경험을 통해 리더십을 개발시킬 수 있었으며, 직접적인 리더십 경험만이 아니라 단체 활동 경험 같은 간접적 리더십 경험을 통해서도 리더십을 개발할 수 있었다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 대학생의 리더십 개발을 위해서는 효율적인 리더십 경험이 도움이 될 수 있을 것이라는 본 연구를 토대로 고등교육기관에서는 적합한 리더십 경험을 제 공하는 방향을 모색할 수 있을 것이며, 향후 리더십 경험과 관련된 많은 실증연구가 진행될 수 있기를 기대한다.

This study focuses on the leadership capability of college students and pays attention to leadership experience as one of the effective ways to develop leadership in higher education. First, it examines the importance of leadership and leadership development conceptually, and emphasizes the role of leadership experience in improving college students’ leadership capabilities. Second, it analyzes the type, amount, and timing of leadership experiences that affect the leadership level of college students. For the analysis, the study uses references related to leadership, leadership development, and leadership experience, and it uses quantitative research data for systemizing leadership experience. The quantitative data was taken from surveys conducted on 428 college students of various years at 16 universities in South Korea to identify differences in leadership level depending on the type, amount, and timing of leadership experience. The results showed that college students’ leadership experiences were significantly related to their leadership level and included not only experiences as leaders in organizations but also experiences as followers in group activities. The study concluded that college students as potential leaders can develop their leadership capability through both direct and indirect leadership experiences.
