Analysis on the Absurdity in Military Camps and Preventive Measures : Focusing on Military Sucides

The high suicide rate of the military personnel causes serious personal and social problems; it gives pain and sorrow to their families and brings losses of the military power and of valuable members of the society. Therefore, it is critical for the morale of soldiers and for the society itself to decrease the suicide rate. This study aimed at proposing some preventative measures by trying to analyze the causes of the suicides. First of all, the theories about the suicide were discussed and then it was found that the suicide rate in the military camps in higher than that in general. The result of the study says, ① The suicide rate seems to go down since 1990. ② "Hanging oneself" is used most frequently for suicides and followed by "taking poison". ③ Most of the suicides was committed while duty off. ④ Those whose ranks are "Private" committed suicide more ofen than those in any other ranks. ⑤ From the economic perspective, those from low income families have a high rate of suicide. ⑥ In occupation before the military, the unemployed and students
