The Influence of the Evaluation Areas of the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings on the Overall Score

본 연구는 2013~2015년도에 발표된 THE의 아시아대학 순위 평가에서 활용하고 있는 평가영역들이 평가결과에 주는 영향력을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 중다회귀분석을 활용하여 평가영역들이 총점에 미치는 상대적 영향력을 분석하고 경향을 비교하였다. 분석결과 THE의 아시아대학 순위 평가에서 가장 영향력이 큰 평가영역은 연구와 인용 영역이었다. 평가영역들의 영향력 순서는 변하고 있었다. 이 순서변화는 평가영역들의 표준편차 크기 변화와 유사하였다. 표준편차가 커지는 영역의 영향력이 상승하였고, 표준편차가 작아지는 영역들의 영향력은 감소하였다. THE 아시아대학 순위 평가 평가영역들의 영향력은 THE의 세계대학 순위 평가와 다른 경향을 보이고 있었다. 세계대학 순위 평가에서는 연구 영역이 가장 큰 영향을 주고 있었으나 아시아대학 순위 평가에서는 인용 영역의 영향력이 상승하여 가장 큰 영향력을 행사하는 영역이 되었다. 아시아권 대학들이 THE의 아시아대학 순위 평가에서 원하는 결과를 얻기 위해서는 연구역량, 인용지수를 강화하는데 투자할 필요가 있고 영어논문을 출간할 수 있도록 지원해야 하는 것으로 나타났다.

This study aimed to analyze the influence of the evaluation areas in the THEAUR (2013-2015) data. To achieve this purpose, using stepwise regression analysis, the relative impact of the evaluation areas on the rankings was examined and changes in the areas’ impact were compared. The analysis revealed that research and citation were the most influential areas of the THEAUR. The order of areas’ influence was changing. This change was similar to alteration in the standard deviation of areas. An increase in the standard deviation of an area led to a corresponding increase in its influence. The influence of the THEAUR’s areas was different from that of the THEWUR’s areas. Although research was the most influential area in the THEWUR, citation’s impact strengthened and it became the most significant area in the THEAUR. To accomplish higher rankings, it has been proposed that Asian countries should invest in resources for enhancing the capacity of research and citation and assist researchers in publishing papers in English.
