一九作合巻唐渡仙人揃と岳亭作品における 異人․異国への意識について

本稿では異国を趣向とした五つの草双紙における異国人․異国文化の 異化、或いは同化․大衆化というイメージ․エキゾチシズムを辿った。時 代の変化による異国への意識変化を確認するためである。具体的には、典型的な大衆小説家に値する十返舎一九作文政十年刊合巻唐渡仙人揃と、安政六年の三港開港と五ヶ国自由貿易許可という情勢の真っ直中で書かれた二代目岳亭の作品たちである。特に岳亭作品の中で日本を舞台にし た異文化、日本人と交わる異人を描出した<膝栗毛もの>合巻三種と、異国を舞台にした西洋物合巻万国竒談袋に注目した。後者は南アメリカと北アメリカを舞台にオランダ人まで登場させ、人名や地名のみならず、様々 な風物を描く絵組においても異国らしさを全面に押し出すに至っている。 斯くして異文化はエキゾチシズムの為の珍物扱い(寛政八年刊中華手本唐 人蔵)→大したもの․珍しいものではなくなる(唐渡)→日本文化に同化してきた異文化(<膝栗毛もの>)、異文化に同化する日本文化(万国)とい う図式に当て嵌めて単純化できる作例を探ってみた次第である。
The present article discusses the differentiation of foreigners and foreign cultures represented in “Kusazōshi” featuring “foreign country,” or the image exoticism of assimilation and popularization. The purpose of this inquiry is to confirm the change of consciousness towards “foreign country” reflecting the change of time. Concretely, our analysis concerns Gokan “Karawatari-Senninsoroe,” weitten by Zippensha Ikku, who is regarded as a typical short story writer and Gakutei’s literary works. In particular, we concentrate on Gakutei’s “Hizakurigemono,” which features foreign cultures and the contact of foreigners with Japanese people as well as “Bankoku-kidanbukuro,” which highlights foreign cultures based on the story in the Americas. In this article, we propose the simplified path in the following order: “different cultures are treated as rare goods for exoticism” → “it is no longer a big deal and a rare thing” → “different cultures have been assimilated to the Japanese culture, or Japanese culture have been assimilated to different cultures.”
