본 연구는 한국에 본사를 두고 있는 모기업과 그들의 해외 자회사간 공급사슬의 관계자본이 해 외 자회사의 기술개발역량과 기술혁신성과에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 검증하기 위해 진행하였다. 본 연구를 위하여 한국에 본사를 두고 있는 해외 제조 기업 165개를 대상으로 설문조사를 실 시하고 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 구조 방정식 모형을 통해 관계자본, 기술개발역량, 흡수역량, 기술 혁신성과 간의 관계를 실증적으로 검증하였다. 특히 본 연구에서는 Sobel Test를 통해 자회사의 흡수역량의 매개효과를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 결과적으로 모기업과 해외 자회사의 관계자본 구축은 자회사의 흡수역랑, 자회사의 기술개발 역 량 및 기술혁신성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 이러한 과정에 있어 자회사의 흡수역량이 중요한 매개역할을 하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같은 시사점을 가지고 있다. 첫째, 해외 자회사의 기술 역량 및 성과 향상을 위해 모기업과의 관계 자본 구축의 중요성을 제시하였다. 따라서 부족한 경영자원을 보유 하고 높은 불확실성에 있는 해외 자회사 제조기업은 모기업과의 적극적인 관계자본 형성을 위해 노력해야 할 것이다. 둘째, 자회사가 갖추어야 할 흡수역량은 자회사의 기술개발 역량 형성에 중요 한 역할을 한다. 이와 관련하여 흡수역량의 구축과 관련한 실무적 시사점을 제시할 수 있다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 결과는 기술개발역량이 기술혁신성과에 유의한 영향을 미친다는 기존의 연구 결과를 실증적으로 검증하고 있다.
We empirically show that the effects of relationship capital in supply chain between Korean parent firms and their foreign subsidiaries on technology development capability and technology innovation performance. For study, an empirical study was performed for a path model using structural equation modeling on survey data of 165 foreign subsidiaries in the manufacturing sector. In structural equation model, we focus on the mediating effects of absorptive capability with Sobel test. This study finds that, for the overall sample, there are positive relationships among relationship capital, absorptive capability, technology development capability and technology innovation performance. Findings of this study have several implications as follows: First, it is important to construct the relationship capital between Korean parent firms and their foreign subsidiaries. Second, foreign subsidiary’s absorptive capability is important between relationship capital and subsidiary’s technology development capability. Lastly, this study supports that technology development capability escalates the performance as existing studies.
