원어민 영어교사 활용의 효율성 연구: 초·중학교 영어캠프를 중심으로

Effects of a native English-speaking teacher’s teaching: Elementary and middle school English camp

The study’s aim was to examine the results of the teaching methods of a native English-speaking teacher over a two year period at a vacation English camp. Utilizing a mix of quantitative and content analysis, the study analyzed the survey of 19 elementary schools and 12 middle schools. Data from 2 weeks English camp program of summer and winter 2013 and 2014 camps reports reported the effects of the English camp found both differences and similarities between the two student group. Elementary students showed greater interest, competence, and motivation in their English learning, and the camp was an overall positive English learning opportunity. Middle school students benefitted in their understanding of foreign culture along with increasing their language competence. Both groups reported that the language benefits gained from their camp experience resulted in a reduction of their private education expenses. In addition, both elementary and middle school students reported that they were satisfied with the native English speaking teacher’s teaching styles. The findings imply that both elementary and middle school students receive benefits from native English-speaking teachers’ teaching.
