Traditionally Korean People have long been influenced by Confucianism since the Yi Dynasty and formed its unique familism. This study is to trace the culture elements of corruption from socio-cultural perspective and examine the formative background of corruption and its characteristics, on the basis of defining the culture of corruption. Some fundamental reasons for inducing corrupt behavior are as follows; 1) Power supremacy, 2) Stress on personal tie, 3) Emotional humanism, 4) Strong ritualism, and 5) Discrepancy between social formal and informal norms. The distorted customary practices are prevailed in our way of life such as 1) Not drawing clear line between official and private matters, 2) Excessive reception expenses, 3) Undue marriage or funeral ceremonies, and 4) A way of thinking about 'Give a treat for me'. We must overcome habitual customs which are supposed to corrupt ourselves in order to survive in the era of globalization.
