방유룡 신부의 인간교육과 규범

The Education of Man and Norm in Fr. Andrew Yoo-ryong Bang

방유룡 안드레아 신부는 1930년 10월 16일 사제 서품을 받았으며, 3개의 수도원을 창설했다. 방 신부는 완덕을 위해 다섯 개 계율을 강조한다. 1) 결점을 범하지 말 것, 2) 사욕을 따르지 말 것, 3) 분심잡념을 물리칠 것, 4) 외모를 단정히 할 것, 5) 본성을 초월할 것이다. 이 계율들은 그의 교육 방법이다. 교육의 주요 과제는 근본적으로 인간이란 무엇인가, 인간의 본질이 무엇인가, 또한 인간 속에 내포되어 있는 가치가 무엇인지를 알아야 한다. 분명히 중요한 것은 방 신부가 ‘인간이란 무엇인가?’라는 질문에 어떻게 대답하고 있으며, 이러한 대답의 견지에서 교육의 목표, 내용, 순서를 어떻게 인식하고 있느냐 하는 것이다. 특히 인간에 관한 성 토마스의 원리들을 단호하고 간결하게 밝히고 있으며, 이러한 원리에 따라 자유사회에서 생활하는 사람들에게 어떤 교육을 시켜야 하는지를 제시하고 있다. 교육의 목적은 무엇보다 인간을 인간답게 만드는 것이며, 또한 자기 자신을 한 인간으로 형성시킴으로써 발전되어 가는 동력으로 인도하는 데 있다. 그러므로 교육의 목적은 인간으로 하여금 성인 (聖人)이 되도록 돕고, 지도하는 데 있다는 것이다.

Fr. Andrew Yoo-ryong Bang was ordained on October 26, 1930, and he established three religious orders. Fr. Bang emphasizes five commandments for perfection: 1) Do not commit a fault, 2) Do not follow an evil desire, 3) Reject distractions, 4) Dress properly, 5) Transcend your innate temperament. These five commandments are his method for education. The chief task of education is primarily to know who man is, what is his nature and what is the scale of values becoming a person essentially involves. What matter, evidently, is how Fr. Bang answer the question 'what is man?' and how in the light of this answer he conceives the aim, the content, and the order of education. In particular those of St. Thomas, on man, and shows in terms of these doctrines what sort of education the human person living in a free society entitled to receive. The aim of education is above all to shape man or to guide the evolving dynamism through which man forms himself as a person. Therefore the aim of education is helping and guiding man to become a saint.
