‘엘리후의 연설’에 드러난 시문학적 기법들과 하느님의 교육

Poetic Techniques and God's Education Shown in Elihu's Speech :

일반적으로 ‘엘리후의 연설’(욥기 32~37장)은 후대에 작성되어 첨가된 부분으로 간주되고 있다. 이 긴 연설이 후대에 첨가된 이유는 아마도 이전에 제시된 친구들과의 대화(욥기 3~31장)가 욥기 전반의 신학적 관점을 뚜렷이 정리하지 못한 까닭인 듯한데, 본 고가 선정한 본문 욥기 36,5~15은 그러한 새로운 이해들 중, 특별히 ‘고난을 통한 하느님의 교육’이라는 주제를 구체적으로 소개하고 있다. 인간은 고난의 과정을 통해 하느님의 이야기(교훈)를 직접 듣게 되고, 그 고난을 통해 귀를 여는 지혜를 획득하게 되며, 그러한 과정을 통해 비로소 그 고난으로부터 벗어나게 된다는 것이다. 결국 욥기 36,5~15은 ‘고난을 통해 고난을 극복한다’는 다소 역설적이지만 파격적인 가르침을 제시해 주고 있다. 본 연구는 욥기 36,5~15에 대한 시문학적 특성에도 집중하였다. 최근 엘리후의 연설에 대한 논문을 발표한 바 있는 발(H.M.Wahl)은 욥기 32~37장을 ‘시문학의 걸작’이라고 소개한 바 있는데, 그중의 한 부분을 이루는 욥기 36,5~15은 발군의 문학적 아름다움과 체계적 구조를 담고 있는 본문임이 드러났다. 매우 뛰어난 시문학적 기교들이 대거 적용되어 있었으며 균열이 없는 하나의 일관된 본문이라는 것도 분석의 결과로 밝혀졌다. 특히 본문은 ‘반의적 동의법’과 ‘교차 배열법’을 통해 전반부와 후반부라는 양분법적 구도를 사용하고 있었고(A-B-C // C'-B¹-A'), 양측의 구도 모두 ‘고난’이라는 모티브가 매우 강하게 부각되어 있음을 발견할 수 있었다. 물론 이러한 사실은 본 논문이 적용한 문법적이고 언어분석적인 접근을 통해 확인되었다.

Generally, Elihu's speech in Job 36,5~15 is known as a later addition. The reason this long speech was added by later generation is probably due to the fact that the dialogue with friends that was mentioned in previous chapters did not summarize the theological points that are spread through the book of Job. However, the main text of this study, Job 36,5~15, concretely introduces this specific subject, God's teaching through affliction, among new theological points. Men hear God's teaching, gain wisdom to open their ears, and then finally overcome the affliction through stages of affliction. Ultimately Job 36,5~15 adduces a paradoxical but exceptional lesson of conquering affliction through affliction. The study also focused on poetic characteristics of Job 36,5~15. H.M. Wahl, who recently published a dissertation on Elihu's speech, introduced Job 32~37 as 'poetic masterpiece', and Job 36,5~15 that forms a part of these chapters appears to be a text that has outstanding literal beauty and systematic structure. The results of an analysis show that a great amount of literal skills was applied in the text, and it is a unity without any fragment. Particularly, the body uses a bisectional composition with the first half and the second half, through antithetic parallelism and chiasmus(A-B-C // C'-H¹-A'), and both compositions show a motive, 'affliction' strongly. Of course this fact approved by a grammatical and linguistical approach that was applied to the study.
