While literature is an integral part of education in the field of Korean studies, book, i.e. the space, which comprises literature and other types of texts, which equally belongs to the intellectual culture of the nation, is rarely represented in curricula outside Korea. This paper is an attempt to bring attention to the phenomenon of book as a valuable source that is worth not to be neglected in the education on the field of Korean studies. This paper deals with a Korean antiquarian book not only as an object that contains own specific features, but also as a valuable source on Korean culture in general, an object that illustrates and sometimes explains some of its important features. The author acquired this approach as a result of the experience of teaching the course on Book in intellectual culture of Korea and Book in the Far East at the M.A. course at Saint Petersburg State University, Faculty of Asian and African Studies. Therefore, the paper has a distinctive educational purpose and aims at drawing attention to the phenomenon of Korean book in its antiquarian format and demonstrating how it may be used in academic process relating to Korean studies.
