This research concerns the self-awareness of appearance and hair-style behavior of women who live in Busan. The conclusions were as follows: Self-awareness of appearance was highest for those in the range of 161~164cm in height, 50~54kg in weight. As regards self-awareness of hair condition, hair type and face type were likely to be medium hair length and permanent. Also, those who were most self-aware seemed to take a greater interest in appearance management through permanent and coloring. Self-awareness was more likely to complement face-type and have a neatness in style by styling the bangs. Price and service (kindness, technique) were factors when selecting beauty salons to complete styling. Based on the research, women preferred a beauty salon that gave a well matched hair-style and easy styling. A hair-dryer was most used for hair styling, but curling irons also were preferred by younger generation respondents even though it causes hair damage. Hair damage should therefore be minimized by using a hair protectant before or after hair styling. Hair stylists will also be required to provide technical services to customers through a full knowledge of the hair styling and hair condition that fit an individual’s face shape.
