In this study, we manufactured a cosmetic adhesive containing casein as a natural adhesive ingredient and tested its safety, stability, effectiveness and usability. To determine safety, we performed a cell viability test and patch test. We assessed a centrifuge test, cycling test and viscosity test for evaluation of stability. A tensile strength test was done for evaluation of effectiveness. As the result of the cell viability test, over 80% of cell viability was shown in all concentrations of the manufactured adhesive. With the patch test, there was no allergy reaction to the manufactured adhesive, whereas 2.4%(1) of voluteers (N=24) reacted with an allergic reaction (+/-, weak positive reaction) to spirit gum. In the viscosity test, viscosities of adhesives containing casein and spirit gum were 11.31±0.01 and 9.07±0.05, respectively. As the result of effectiveness, the tensile strength of adhesives containing casein showed 2.20±0.16 MPa but the spirit gum’s tensile strength was lower as a figure of 0.47±0.05 MPa. In conclusion, the several positive results indicate that the adhesive containing casein has the possibility to be developed as a cosmetic adhesive product.
