At a point in time when specialized community colleges recently reform their education system into field-oriented one in order to solve requirement mismatch between industry and community college, this study is intended to present a plan of curriculum development for field and competency-oriented specialized beauty artists by application to hairdressing education, utilizing NCS after grasping the actual condition and problem through objective sample and field survey regarding the necessity and scope of education in the cosmetology curriculum of community college. For the purpose of empirical survey in this study, questionnaires were distributed to domain experts having more than 10 years of work experience in the hairdressing field, including hairdressing-related workers and educators around Seoul⋅Gyeonggi province, and final 66 questionnaires were used as data for analysis through SPSS 21.0. And the results are as follows. Among hairdressing major subjects, haircut was thought to be very important. And among liberal arts subjects, image making was thought to be very important. According to the results of examining the importance of hairdressing education, an education that industry wants the most is an ‘education making it possible to actively cope with specialization’ and a subject requiring an improvement was ‘technical aspect and practical technique’, and ‘psychology’ was needed as a related subject. And it was shown that a subject relating to character and manner was ‘very necessary.’ Through the above-mentioned results, it was possible to verify that major subjects in community college on the basis of NCS were recognized to be important. However, the need for modifying and improving some liberal arts subjects and the importance of technical aspect and practical technique was felt since hairdressing education was a field which focused on practical business affairs. And it was possible to conclude that a comprehensive and professional review and study should be made also in education contents and methods so as to have expertise in accordance with industry’s requirements.
