Development and application of English cultural dialogs for elementary students based on the script theory

This study investigates the effects of English cultural dialogs for elementary students based on the script theory. The study selected 102 students as participants from four different fifth grade classes in G Elementary School. The experimental group was given the cultural dialogs developed based on the script theory, whereas the control group was given the dialogs from the current textbook. An experiment was conducted over 12 weeks for the two groups. In order to investigate the effects of this experiment, pre- and post-English Achievement test and pre- and post-questionnaires on intercultural sensitivity were conducted to see if there is any change in English competence and in intercultural sensitivity between the two groups. The results of this study imply that the English cultural dialogs are more efficient in improving English competence. Furthermore, the English cultural dialogs can be a good instrument to make the integration of language and culture learning.
