Grammatical time and past verb in novel “Season of migration to the North” by Tayeb Salih

This research aims to study the past verb in the grammatical time in the novel "Season of Migration to the North" by Tayeb Salih, it is narrated by a young man who returns to his village in Sudan, after studying in Europe for seven years. This study came up that the past verb of the Arab able to express time accurately, using some additions to past verb, so we must make a distinction between grammatical time and morphological time. Morphological time gives us one form of the past verb, but if we look at the context, we find many meanings for past verb in several forms, and this is called grammatical time. From this point, this paper studied grammatical time of the past verb in novel"Season of migration to the North", and the followed development of the dramatic event and the past verb, in addition to the important role played by the past verb in the drama develops event.
