대학생 단기 해외자원활동 경험의 의미 - 문화 예술 교육 활동을 중심으로 -

The meaning of university students' experience in short-term overseas volunteering program

본 연구는 단기 해외자원활동에 참여하여 문화 예술 교육 활동을 한 대학생들의 경험이 갖는 의미 탐색을 목적으로 하였다. 세 명의 연구 참여자는 7박 9일 동안 캄보디아 씨엠립의 한 초등학교를 방문하여 데칼코마니, 그림책 만들기, 노래와 율동, 운동회 등의 문화 예술 교육 활동을 진행하였다. 연구를 위하여 자원활동 참가자의 신청서, 일지, 수기집, 개인 인터뷰, 단체 인터뷰, 참여관찰 등 다원화된 자료를 수집하고 수집한 자료를 자원 활동 참가자이자 연구자인 연구 참여자와 함께 분석하였다. 연구결과에 따르면 대학생 단기 해외자원활동은 첫째, 문화 예술 활동의 가치에 대해 인식할 수 있게 해주었으며 둘째, 자기를 발견하고 개발할 수 있는 기회가 되었으며 마지막으로 역할의 중요성을 알고 그 의미를 다시 생각해보는 계기가 되었다. 이를 통해 연구자는 대학생 단기 해외자원활동이 갖는 교육적 효과를 확인하였으며 참가자에게 더욱 의미 있는 해외자원활동을 지도하기 위한 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of short-term overseas volunteering program for college students. Three research participants visited a primary school in Siem Reap, Cambodia for seven nights and nine days during their summer vacation. The volunteering work involved arts and culture education such as Decalcomanie, Picture-Book Making, Songs and Chants, school athletic meeting. In order to successfully complete and analyze the program applications of research participants, participants' reflective journals, individual interview, group interviews, and participant observation were collected and analyzed. The major findings were as followed: First, realizing the value of arts and culture, having the opportunity of self-discovery and self-development, reconsidering the meaning and importance of roles. This study confirmed the educational effects of short-term overseas volunteering program and also discussed some suggestions for future programs.
