The Effect of Child's Emotional Intelligence, Mother's Peer Management Strategy, and Home Environment on Child's Peer Competence

In this research we investigated the effect of social demographic factor (especially child"s gender and mother"s job occupation), emotional intelligence of child, mother"s peer relationship management strategy and home environment on the child"s peer competence. Participants in this study were in total 319 five-years-old children, recruited from five child care facilities located in Seoul and Kyung-gi-do. SPSS WIN 17.0 program was used for the analysis of T-test, pearson"s correlation and regression for the collected data, and the analysis results are as follows. Firstly, the gender of child and job occupation of mother had significant correlation with the child peer competence. Secondly, it was shown that child"s peer competence has relation with child"s emotional intelligence, mother"s peer management strategy and home environment. Children with better self and other"s emotion usage, self emotion"s recognition and expression, emotion control and impulse suppression, peer relation skill and relation with teacher showed better peer competence. Thirdly, relative impact analysis showed that child"s emotional quotation had most significant impact on child"s peer competence, while mother"s peer management strategy and home environment showed the second and third impact respectively.
