Dyeability and Colorimetric Properties for Protein Fabrics Dyed with Indigo

The purposes of this study were to evaluate the dyeability and colorimetric properties for silk and wool fabrics naturally dyed with indigo under the three different dyeing conditions. The dyeing method used was hydrosulphite vat of extracted dye. K/S values of dyed fabrics were investigated to analyze the dyeability of natural indigo on silk and wool fibers. The values of CIE L*, a*, b* were calculated for the color characteristics of indigo-dyed fabrics, and their hue, value, and chroma were calculated according to the Munsell color system. Highest K/S values were obtained at the pH 7 and temperature 50℃ of dye bath both silk and wool fabrics. All kinds of silk fabrics showed bluish colors, but wool fabrics showed bluish color and blue purple color, although the brightness and the saturation of each fabrics was different. It showed change in color of dyed fabrics according to the different dyeing conditions and fiber.
