The Effects of Exchange Rate and Price on Trade of East Asian Countries

As the global financial crisis expanded and intensified, East Asian countries had relatively less damage and recovered faster. In particular, China worked as a motive power for economic recovery so as to overcome the crisis. Although it was suggested that the importance of exchange rate in export competitiveness was significantly decreased, the strong tone of won currency affected export negatively or deteriorated payability of export business. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effects of exchange rate, price, GDP and foreign reserves on the trade system of East Asian countries since the global financial crisis using pooled OLS. As a result of the study, it was discovered that adjusted R-squared was 94.6% when it was estimated by Pooled OLS, which explains approximately 95% of trade. As a result of the Hausman Test, the random effect was more appropriate than the fixed effect as seen in the estimated adjusted R-squared value of was 95%.
