본 연구의 목적은 북한이탈주민 여성의 인구학적 특성과 사회적응간의 영향을 분석하는 것에 있다. 이를 동해 인구학적 특성이 사회적응에 차이가 있는가에 대해 연구하고 이를 통해 효과적인 사회적응 방안을 모색하여 정책당국과 사회현장에서 활용하는 데 연구의 의의가 있다. 경기도에 소재하는 북한이탈주민 여성들을 중심으로 설문 조사를 한 결과 연령, 성별 그리고 탈북동기 등은 사회적응에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 북한이탈주민 여성의 사회적응을 실시 할 때 이와 같은 것을 고려하여 프로그램을 충실히 하거나 사회적응을 향상시키는 방법 등을 통해 이러한 문제에 잘 대응할 수 있을 것이다. 정책당국은 이러한 점을 고려하여 사회적응 프로그램을 작성 할 때 충실하게 운영할 수 있는 방안을 모색하여야 할 것이다. 이러한 연구 결과를 동해 북한이탈주민 여성들의 사회적응에 대한 발전방안을 제언해 보았다.
