Even though Joyce leaves his country, the major theme of his most works is about Ireland, Dublin and the people. Due to a long colonial rule, Dublin seemed the center of paralysis to Joyce. Since the space of Dublin is not just a city but a living organism in Dubliners, Dublin society connotes historicity as well. Therefore, Dublin city is an important role as a main character through the story. The purpose of this study is to re-read the text of Dublin society in terms of the space, especially as distorted, closed space. Unfortunately, each space as home, community, school and Dublin society in Dublin can't play their leading roles. Dublin city in Dubliners is closed. The atmosphere of distortion pervades the space of Dublin. As a result, the characters find themselves helplessly trapped into social discontinuity. They have no hopes for their escape.
