A Study of English Teaching Methods on Present Perfect Tense through Comparison with Past Tense

The purpose of this study is to suggest some effective teaching methods on English tense especially present perfect tense comparing with past tense. This study deals with some effective ways to help students to understand and distinguish present perfect tense from past tense. Some effective methods on teaching present perfect tense are suggested as follows: First, the grammar title, 현재완료시제, makes students confused and leads to misunderstanding of the tense. “과거현재시제”, however, enunciates its concept literally so that students get it from the start. Second, teachers should not underestimate a context and the ambiguity of a sentence including present perfect tense. Lastly, teachers should teach the meaning of past tense comparing with present tense first.
