풍수 진산·주산의 정상화와 타자화

The Normalization and Othering of Fengshui Jinsan and Jusan in the Joseon Dynasty

본 연구는 조선시대 전국 8도에 속하는 총 335개 군·현 읍치를 대상으로 지역별, 시기별로 진산, 주산 상황을 정리하고 이를 통해 전통적 공간인식체계인 풍수의 차이와 관련된 진산, 주산 개념의 정상화와 타자화 과정을 살펴보았다. 지역별로 다소 차이는 있으나 조선 전기부터 중기까지는 진산 개념이, 그리고 조선후기에는 주요한 산 개념으로 주산이 기존의 진산과 혼재돼 있거나 주산이 주종을 이루는 경향성이 나타났다. 이러한 변화 경향을 정상화, 타자화 과정과 관련해 살펴보면 조선 전기에서 중기까지는 고려시대 ‘국가적 차원의 비보풍수’와 관련된 진산 관념이 정상적 위치를 유지했고 조선후기에는 조선 전기 국도나 왕릉 또는 중앙 권력층이나 지식엘리트들에 한정돼 있던 ‘명당풍수’가 정상화 과정을 통해 대중적, 지역적으로 확산되었음을 알 수 있다. 결국 조선 후기 접어들면서 주산 개념으로 대변되는 명당풍수가 진산 개념 그리고 기존의 국가적 차원의 비보풍수를 대체하는 정상화 과정이 수행되었다고 할 수 있다

From the perspective of fengshuiwhich has been understood as a Korean traditional geographical thought, each villages and cities had been located under the holy back-mountains called ‘Jinsan’(guardian mountain) or ‘Jusan’(main mountain). On this paper, I try to explore the more general inclinations of the changes of ‘Jinsan’ or ‘Jusan’ in the eight provinces of Joseon Dynasty. Consequently, I could identify that almost all of regions in eight provinces showed the similar inclination that ‘Jinsan’ concept was prevalent from the beginning to the middle of the Joseon Dynasty, and ‘Jusan’ came to be very popular in the late Joseon Dynasty. I think that this kind of change from ‘Jinsan’ to ‘Jusan’ would be caused by the normalization of ‘Jusan’ concept in the late Joseon Dynasty. Originally ‘Jinsan’ concept was related to ‘Bibofengshui’ of the previous Dynasty Goryeo and the traditional folk beliefs to the holy mountains. And ‘Jusan’ was the very representative concept of Myeongdangfengshui which had been popular in the late Joseon Dynasty. Therefore the change from ‘Jinsan’ to ‘Jusan’, I think, means that Myeongdangfengshui would replace the previous ‘Bibofengshui’ or traditional folk beliefs and its process might be related to the normalization of Myeongdangfengshui or ‘Jusan’ concept
