퇴계의 매화사랑과 우정교육

Teogye’s Love for Plum and Friendship Education

교육적으로 의미 있는 우정의 길을 퇴계 이황(李滉: 1501∼1570, 退溪)으로부터 찾아본다. 실제적 근거는 퇴계가 우정과 존경으로 매화를 사랑한 사실과 퇴계선생언행록에서 확인되는 제자들과 교학상장하며 실천한 우정이다. 선생은 벼슬에서 물러나 지은 집과 서당에는 빠짐없이정원을 만들고 초목을 가꾸었다. 정원에 심은 초목들 가운데 선생이 가장 애호한 나무는 매화 다. 지금까지 우리나라에서 퇴계보다 매화시를 더 많이 지은 시인은 없다. 매화를 읊은 시가 107수다. 별세하던 그 해 퇴계는 자작 매화시 107수 가운데 91수를 선별하여 연대순으로 자필로 써서 [매화시첩]을 엮었다. 퇴계의 매화시는 내용에 있어 우정 지향과 풍류 지향으로 이해 된다. 퇴계는 청정하고 아름다운 꽃이 매화의 진면목이라고 여겼다. 매화꽃이 근본이고 매실은 말단이라는 평가에서, 사물의 근본을 중시하는 유학자의 자세를 읽을 수 있다. 본말을 분별하는 선생에게 진정한 학문이란 위인지학과 차별화되는 ‘위기지학’이다. 퇴계는 시 ｢벗을 만나다｣가 보여주듯이, 우정의 진정한 목적은 인(仁)의 덕을 돕는데 있다. 그리고 퇴계의 우정교육은 교학상장의 과정이다. 이를 퇴계언행록의 자료를 중심으로 사재동행, 붕우유신, 벗 선택 문제 셋으로 나누어 고찰했다.

The purpose of this study is to elucidate Teogye Lee Hwang‘s tremendous love for plum and to suggest educational implications of his viewpoints of friendships. The results can be summarized as following. Teogye claimed that he possessed the tremendous love for plum. He thought plum a faithful friend, respectful master, and unworldly being. He made a garden in his take-off position(Hanseoam, Gyesangseodang, Dosandang) and planted Meahwa. And in his life, he wrote high-toned 107 plum-poems. In korea, he is a poet who sang plum in poetries, which are the greatest in number. His main theme in plum-poems includes friendship and life of romantics. Teogye, as a friend of plum , are a person who truly knows plum. In the absolute belief and friendship for plum, he intended his study to Wikigihak, so called, perfection of character. Related to this, aims to make friends are to help them to be a benevolent person. As a teacher, Teogye s life was a growing path while mutual teaching and learning occur with his students(Kohaksangjang). He believed that he can learn something from the natural objects or even from a beneath him.
