The purpose of this study was to lay the groundwork for providing gallery art education to children, as a gallery could serve as one of the best education spaces to offer aesthetic experience. An experiential program titled ‘Gallery Journey,’ which highlighted the unique characteristics of an art gallery as a place to take the lead in art culture, was designed to offer firsthand chances for children to look around exhibits and find out how art culture was created. Specifically, this program allowed children to look at art works in a specific way and then become artists themselves by making their own art works. Also, that gave them a more unique chance to become critics by displaying their art works and communicating with them. The program made it possible to organically link three different activities, including understanding, creating and displaying, in class, and that was consequently expected to take art education to another level by taking advantage of the unique features of an gallery. A teaching model titled appreciation-based artist-critic interaction model was prepared by classifying the three activities into six: experiencing, reacting, observing, expressing, journalling and criticizing. When its applicability was tested, it turned out that this model could determine some of the right directions for the new type of experiential art education through a gallery.
