Art Therapy for Pediatric Patients with Childhood Cancer

본 연구는 소아암 환아에게 그림의 의미는 무엇이며, 그림을 통하여 어떤 신호를 하는지 알아보고자하는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 A시에 소재하는 A대학병원 소아과 병동의 ‘병원학교’에 참여하는 소아암 환아를 대상으로 2007년 3월부터 2008년 10월까지 참여한 7명에 대한 사례이다. 결과는 소아암 환아의 그림에서 언어로 표현할 수 없는 자신의 건강상태를 표현하고, 고통을 이겨내려는 노력을 하고 있음을 표현하였으며, 다가올 건강상태나 생존의 여부를 그림을 통하여 신호한다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study is to find out what sort of artworks pediatric patients with childhood cancer produce and what meaning or significance the artworks contain. The study subjects are seven child patients with childhood cancer who participated in the ‘hospital school’ at the pediatric ward of A-University Hospital during March, 2007 through October, 2008. The study results show that the patients tried to exhibit into their drawings the state of their health that cannot be verbalized while making an effort to overcome their pains, and gave signals in their artworks that suggested change of their health or possibility of survival in the future.
