오늘날 우리나라 패총의 연구는 발굴조사의 증가와 함께 비약적으로 발전하였다. 그러나 이런 비약적인 발전 뒤에는 기초자료의 분석이 이루어지고 있지 않는 모순된 면도 있다. 이는 아주 위험한 연구방법으로 빨리 극복되어져야 한다. 패총은 유물의 보고로서 아주 많은 자연유물을 포함하고 있으므로 발굴조사에서부터 정리에 이르기까지 세섬한 주의를 필요로 하며, 또한 이들 자연유물로부터 우리가 얻어낼 수 있는 고고학적 정보는 무엇인가 살펴보았다. 이리한 과정을 거쳤을 때 올바른 패총의 연구방법론이 형성될 것이다.
Summary The study of a shell mound in Korea makes rapid progress with increasing an excavational examination. On the other hand, there is a contradiction not to be analyzed fundamental data. This method is very dangerous and we must overcome this as soon as possible. A shell mound as the thesaurus of a relics contains ecofacts very much so that it is needed to pay scrupulous attention from an excavational examination to its arrangement. This study exams what kind of information we can get from the ecofacts. Throughout this process, it will be formed the righteous methodology of studying a shell mound.
