A Study of Nail Digital Design Using Kusama Yayoi’s Formative Aspects

Nail art, a beauty icon of modern times, is rapidly developing in the Republic of Korea and abroad. As new products are being developed continuously, there has been a strong demand for the development of new design that meets the trend that customers want. The emergence of an automatic nail printer has solved time and cost-related problems, and customers have been able to have photos printed on their nails. This study attempted to analyze modern nail design by newly re-illuminating modern art based on the modern artist Kusama Yayoi’s art work. In terms of design method, it attempted to create diverse ideas using digital techniques. As a result, people have been able to get access to Kusama’s unique motifs in an easy and simple fashion and create diverse patterns regarding formative aspects. In addition, fancy color and modern aspects of opposite coloration were appropriate for reinterpretation with modern design. A study of design using digital technology is advantageous in expressing diverse patterns, changing colors without limitations, and predicting results. In addition, it is very convenient in adjusting design. For this, however, users should be well experienced and skilled enough to handle Photoshop. Once they are able to use Photoshop, nail design will be able to move in a new direction as another art genre with extended expression opportunities. It is expected that continued digital study on nail design will bring about unique and creative nail design.
