Users are regarded as one of the most important sources of innovation but it has been known that they are not interested in established their own firms. However, recent a few studies started showing frequent foundation activity of users and their high performance. Lately, the fact of professional-user entrepreneurs’ better performance than R&D intensive startups is known but study on them has not been elaborately dealt with yet. Thus, this study targets professional-user entrepreneurs and draws on their foundation motives and success or survival factors by investigating five professional-user entrepreneur cases in Korean dental industry. This study suggests two groups of foundation motivesㅡintrinsic and extrinsicㅡ and four factors of success or survivalᅳuser community, user entrepreneurs’ role as a networker, user entrepreneurs’ characteristics, and resource.
